For the first time, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor speaks directly to his fans and shares his worldview about life as a sinner. And Taylor knows how to sin. As a small-town hero in the early '90s, he threw himself into a fierce-drinking, drug-abusing, hard-loving, live-for-the moment life. Soon Taylor's music exploded, and he found himself rich, wanted, and on the road. His new and ever-more extreme lifestyle had an unexpected effect, however; for the first time, he began to actively think about what it meant to sin and whether sinning could--or should--be recast in a different light. Seven Deadly Sins is Taylor's personal story, but i

Title: Could be better
Date: Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2011
Review: Don't get me wrong, Corey Taylor is a great writer (as always), and he is extremely funny. I actually laughed a lot reading his book.
Unfortunately, however... I have mixed feelings about this book.
I wanted to say "I didn't like it" but I did like some points he made... Which is the reason for the 3 stars.
Plus, I'm giving a 'real' review here... I'm not going to suck up to Corey and give him 5 stars, when I don't feel that way. I have to be honest.
Not going to speak for him, because I don't know him personally, but I'm sure he'd appreciate a 'real' review. Not saying that all the posters on here gave 'fake' reviews, but I'm not going say they aren't either. This is just my opinion, it isn't fact, as all people have the right to say otherwise.
I do agree that the seven deadly sins are NOT sins. They are crafted by the church and its people
And to add, they aren't even mentioned in the Bible, one of the oldest books and perhaps the first book ever printed.
Yes, I am angry that religious people make others feel bad about themselves for these supposed 'sins'.
However, let me get to the point of my review....
I was a bit disappointed in this book. I think it could be better.
I haven't read all of it, but I have read most.
(I got to chapter 10 and will read the rest)
I have a brother who is religious. He is a reverend of a church and we have both bumped heads several times
about issues I'm not going to get into on here (at least not all of them).
I also used to be ... not religious really... but I was a Christian, and I did believe in the Bible. Highly in fact.
However, now I think it was poorly translated, or a screw up on the writers' part. That, or the over usage of symbolism (Example: "Is it literal or symbolic?")
Between ages of 17-22 years, I think I was/am the most open-minded Christian I knew/know.
I supported the gay/straight alliance at my school. I was even in the 'parade', wearing a rainbow button on my shirt.
I was willing to learn about other religions other than my own. I always hear how Wiccans are evil, but I got to meet one. Sweet lady! and possibly a great motherly figure, and a terrific friend. I asked her about her religion and I wanted to know more. She was hesitant at first, because I was a Christian (Which saddens me =[). She automatically said, "no, I don't worship the devil". I told her I knew, and that I was just curious. We became good friends.
I have made friends with atheists and all sorts of different people. You can't judge someone based on appearances or their taste of music, or their religion (or lack of religion).
My brother got really stern with me when I told him I wanted to study Wicca.
After all, it's not like he knew what he was talking about. He didn't even know the difference between a pentacle and a pentagram. So how can you say something is evil, when you know nothing about it?
Okay, trust me, this had a point =p
Corey Taylor groups Christians (and other religions) together as if they're all judgmental, gay bashing, child molesters, out in the world seeking to control people. I'm not saying he did this deliberately, but because his book is a rant, it came off that way. If he didn't mean all Christians or (insert another type of religious person here), it should have been edited to say so. For example, "I'm not talking about all religious people" or "I know some good hearted religious people" etc.
Sorry if that sounds a bit strange... I didn't want to keep saying "Christian" because there are far more religions than Christianity and didn't want to come off in a way where I'm just talking about my religion. I'm speaking for all good-hearted people who believe in a 'higher power' or a 'deity'. And by 'good-hearted' I mean people that aren't the general stereotypical person of religion (?), Christian or otherwise.
Which is why I am kind of offended. I am not one of those Christians or people who judge you for every little thing you have done in your life. I won't tell you that you are "going to hell" because you don't believe, or rub the Bible in your face. I am AGAINST This behavior. I think it's sickening, and to be put in the same group as those types of people is extremely annoying and hurtful.
I love people for who they are. I won't tell them how to live their life, unless it is hurting themselves, or someone else. (But I try to help the person, not criticize)
I'm far from perfect, but I know when I am right, and when I'm wrong. I'll gladly tell you myself.
I don't think having sex is a good thing unless you are safe. Having sex with countless people is never a good thing if you're not safe.
People who are 'big' or as he puts, "fat" isn't always from stuffing your mouth full of food. I know a lot of people who exercise and don't eat a lot, and they are still on the chubby side. I don't see what the big deal is, as much as it is unhealthy, I think all people come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Nothing wrong at all with the way someone looks. I was taught different than that though, I guess.
I know this review is probably going to get nowhere, and I doubt I'll get through to anyone, and I know I'll get negative feedback, but I don't care.
I am not trying to come off rude in any way, and I'm not trying to criticize at all, so sorry if I come off that way. I am also not trying to bash Corey, because his heart is clearly in the right place, I just like to be informed that he knows not all religious people are like that...
The thing that bothers me most, is the fact, that he is trying to make people feel better about themselves, and to push sin out of their lives because it is hurting these people on an emotional/mental level. The ironic thing is, is that I've never felt as bad as I do now after reading one of his chapters. So, it didn't really help, but then again, I've never had a problem with 'sin' really. Not when it came to the "seven deadly" anyway. Those are obviously made up.
Also, in his book he says that if you think your religion is the only right one, (I don't know the exact quote but he says you're wrong to think so). I disagree. Why would you follow a religion, or believe in it, when you don't know if it's the right one? There is NOTHING wrong with that, unless you discriminate against others' beliefs. (For example: Saying that they are wrong to follow it, etc.) If you are just saying, I don't believe in any religion but my own, is NOT wrong at all. For example, my Wiccan friend, she told me she believed in God, just not the way Christians do. She believes in the Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses. Me? I don't believe in the Greek and Roman Gods/Goddesses. They're GREAT stories, but that's all they are to me. It's an opinion, it doesn't mean they don't really exist. For all I know, they could exist, but I highly doubt it. I respected her opinion/religion, and she respected mine. She didn't believe fully in my religion, yet she still respected it. There is nothing wrong with thinking your religion is the only right religion. As long as you don't put down others' beliefs, and respect their opinions, I don't see the harm.
Plus, it made me angry, that Corey Taylor mentions religious people being 'child molesters'. Ready for the big reality check??
Even if religion DIDN'T exist, child molestation would still happen! Quit blaming churches/priests/religion/etc etc.
Just because someone says they are a priest, or whatever, doesn't mean they actually are! Some people are just sick like that, and will do whatever it takes to get close to their 'prey' or 'victim' (same thing).... If anything, don't trust anyone. But instead, he makes it sound like you can't trust any religious person. Makes me angry!
I can go on and on, but I mean no disrespect at all. Corey Taylor is like a hero to me, and I think I can relate a lot to where he came from and how he was brought up, since I had a bad childhood as well, not as bad as his, but still similar. I never once blamed God for it. My belief in the Bible has faded, but my opinion of God hasn't wavered. I've witnessed the evil in this world, and I know that with all things, if there is a lower power, there is in fact a higher power.
And to close, this book, like everything else, has it's pros and cons, or it's good and evil (pun intended).
But to me, it has more cons than anything else.
Also, to get something straight before I post this, with the way religions are today, I don't really blame people for being atheist or agnostic.
Religion is supposed to be about peace, and love, and unity, but today it is something else, something judgemental, or as my boyfriend says, somewhat of a cult. I went to my brother's church, and because I am poor, I had to wear one of my band shirts. These little girls, probably 12-16 kept giving me really rude glances. My brother's wife told me that "all gay people should die" and I told her she should be ashamed of herself and that she was a poor excuse for a "Christian". Then when my sister asks her about it, she lies. Plus people getting kicked out of church because of their attire is ridiculous! What happened to what church was really about?? Family, and a community! Love and respect, forgiveness!? It's sad! It makes me ashamed! But then again, I can be happy that not all churches are like that. Sad to say, that my brother's church isn't one of them. It's a pentacostal church and it's wonderful! Everyone treats you like family and was and still is the ONLY church where I have felt unconditional love and the only church today that I felt God's presence in. Hopefully, when I go back to my hometown, I can go there. Even if you are not a part of their church, they still treat you like family. Their church is right across the street from my nieces elementary school, and on hot summer days, they can be seen outside the church giving ice cream to the kids and their parents for free, just because they care. They make me feel as if there is still hope in this world =]

Review: One night recently I stumbled upon some online movies of Corey talking and I thought to myself... geez I remember when Slipknot was just starting to come around and then when they got obscenely popular. This was back when I dyed my hair freaky colors and went through this phase of wearing crazy clothes. And I was like wow I guess we all grow up to look pretty normal looking at the end of the day. But then I thought geez he's way more well spoken than I would have thought. And way more musically diverse. At some point I completely stopped paying attention to who is in what band. And other than 15 year old magazine articles I couldn't have ever told you who was in Slipknot.
At the end of the day I bought this book because Corey is reasonably well spoken and having read a few autobiographies documenting the rock life and the tragic childhoods of all the people I read about I wanted something different. I wanted to see what was rattling around in that head of his. His thoughts on stuff instead of a woe is me tale of why it sucks to be a rock star or lets tally how many people I've slept with. And that's what I got with this book.
Now the writing style is a complete stream of consciousness which I like to read when dealing with topics like these. I'm a freak like that though and I'll admit it and I'll admit for a lot of people it's going to be a tough read because it flits topic to topic conversationally.
There's a degree of language used in this book and depictions of some women that are less than flattering. But I'm also going to throw out there that some of the women depicted put themselves in less than flattering situations. I didn't see any hatred of women in this book. Just statement of some realities. In fact as everything kind of came to a close I saw the complete opposite of hatred.
And there's complaints about his ego. I've spent the better part of my life hanging around bands. Lots of bands and people wanting to get famous. I hate to say it but there is a degree of ego and arrogance involved. So I'm not surprised about the degree of ego that comes out in this book whether joking or unintentionally. There is also a degree of ego when you scrape yourself up from nothing but nasty and make something of yourself. You have to have it for survival purposes. So I can't fault him or his writing style for that.
I didn't always agree with what he said but I could see where he was coming from and it was an interesting view for me into his thought process.
I guess if someone is coming here to find a book by someone humbly talking about their life and music career apologetically... this is not the book. If you're looking for a writer who stepping up and throwing his opinions out there on various topics in a conversational form... this is the book for you.

Review: The poetry by Henry Rollins. Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx.... those are worth reading.
I absolutely LOVE Slipknot!!!!!!!
I have followed them ever since the release of their first album, and I’m 50 years old now!
We go and see them in every state, every chance we get.
I’ve seen 25 different shows in 4 different countries.
They are literally one of the best shows we have ever seen, and we never get tired of their music! Obviously, we are almost obsessed, but....
Corey Taylor is amazing!
He is a true poet and a musical genius
Slipknot, Stone Sour... Music almost doesn’t get any better than this!
ButI couldn’t even get past Chapter 5!
Corey writes this book as a complete narcissistic, self-absorbed d*ck....
I guess I just always imagined him as someone that would be so cool to hang out with based on his rough upbringing, but this book just reads as he’s patting his own self on the back through the 5 chapters.
I’m definitely going to finish the book, and I may revise my post… But I honestly think Corey lost a couple of stars with me.
